The Lycian Way: Ölüdeniz to Kalkan
"Every stone path here has been walked for two thousand years — you feel it in the soles of your feet."

mehmet-tuncay-akyuz shares authentic, hand-researched driving and walking routes across Turkey — completely free to use, forever. From forgotten Aegean coves to high Anatolian plateaus, these are the roads that don't appear in any package tour.

Route Curator & Traveller
About the Curator
I grew up in a small town in central Anatolia where the horizons stretched endlessly and every valley held a story older than memory. From an early age I was drawn not to the polished coastal resorts — but to the unmarked dirt tracks that wound through pine forests, over mountain passes, and into villages where the pace of life still followed the seasons.
Over more than two decades of road travel across Turkey, I have navigated crumbling Byzantine trade routes in Cappadocia, traced the ancient Lycian way on foot and by motorcycle, discovered hidden waterfalls in the Kaçkar Mountains, and camped beside Bronze Age ruins on the Aegean plateau. What I found again and again was that Turkey's truest character lives far from the beaten path — in its geography, its silence, and its people.
mehmet-tuncay-akyuz is my attempt to document those discoveries honestly. This is not a commercial venture, not a sponsored travel agency, and not a list of the most Instagrammable spots. It is a personal atlas — carefully written route guides, practical navigation notes, and cultural context — freely shared with anyone who wants to explore Turkey the way I do: slowly, curiously, and with deep respect for the land and its communities.
Whether you are planning your first trip to Turkey or your fifteenth, I hope these routes lead you somewhere genuinely unexpected.

"Underground, time moves differently. The carved churches of Ihlara hold frescoes that have survived earthquakes, invasions, and centuries of indifference."
"Turkey's tea capital is not Istanbul. It is a steep hillside above Rize, perpetually wrapped in mist, smelling of something green and alive."
Three commitments that shape every route published on this site — and distinguish it from the usual travel content.
Honest, independent routes
Every road, village stop, and viewpoint featured here was chosen purely on merit. No brand deals, no affiliate kickbacks, no promoted destinations — just the places worth going to.
Zero commercial intent
This blog has no paywall, no membership tier, and no premium content. All route guides, maps, and travel notes are published openly — because good information should reach anyone who wants to explore.
Each route personally researched
No route goes live without being driven, walked, or ridden firsthand. Local knowledge, seasonal nuances, road conditions, and community hospitality are all woven into each guide from direct experience.
"Turkey's backroads deserve better than a sponsored listicle. This is an attempt to do them justice."
